Living in an Age of Uncertainty

Today's post is all about living in an age of uncertainty. As a young person, I feel that there is an ever growing amount of uncertainty surrounding job prospects, the economy and the future in general. Things change so rapidly, it can be overwhelming to keep up.

I do feel fairly fortunate as someone who is in the business world, as I am able to keep up a little more with the changing trends, politics and economy as a part of my degree, however I do feel that there is a lot that we can't control, and have to keep guessing about. I think the biggest experience of uncertainty I have faced so far in my life, is during my placement search. I didn't know where I would be or whether I would even secure a position. It's a challenging prospect to deal with whilst also trying to apply for jobs, research companies and go to assessment centres. Below are some of my tips for staying calm in times of uncertainty.

1. Be Patient

Ensuring that you remain patient in times of uncertainty is so important. I'll admit that it's difficult for me at the best of times, but being patient and allowing time to play out can really help to ease the feeling of uncertainty. There's a lot of important decisions being made during these times- making sure that you don't rush these will allow things to work out even better.

2. Take Steps to Reduce Uncertainty

Seems a little bit obvious but it's important that if you can reduce how uncertain you feel, to do so. For me, this often takes the form of doing some research just so I can get a better idea of what possible outcomes can be. Being informed can really help to reduce anxious feelings surrounding uncertainty, as you can further understand what steps you can take to help reduce uncertainty.

What do you think?
